Back in WA

Thursday 29 June 2017

Once again we have run away to Western Australia so that Eric can detect for gold.

We left home at 7am on Monday 19 June and waved to Laura, Liv and Hugo as they were walking up to Hugo’s daycare on their way to Waitara PS. Liv is now in kindy and attends before and after school care there. We were finally on the road.

Our first night was at Darlington Point, a nice little town with a nice caravan park on the Murrumbidgee River. The next morning I bought a postcard at the local newsagent and posted it to Liv at Hay. She is now reading lots of words so we thought a postcard would be an exciting thing for her to find in the mailbox.

Night two was spent a Morgan in SA, an old river town on the Murray River with a ferry crossing. We stopped at Port Augusta in SA for fuel as usual and then made it to Wudinna for the next night. Wudinna is the town with the modern granite statue recognizing the farmer. Ceduna was another fuel stop and we had lunch down near the water. Postcard No. 2 went off to Liv from Ceduna and we were on the road again. This year we had no headwind and there were few other vehicles on the road so we had no problem getting to Eucla WA for the next night stop. The next day we had morning tea at Madura Lookout and lunch at Baxters Rest and were in Frasers Range homestead camping area by 3.30pm to camp that night.

We left Frasers Range at 7.30am the next morning and were booking into the caravan park at Kalgoorlie by mid-day. After lunch we drove out to Bulong to see what was going on out there. Pete caught us up with all the gossip and pointed out the spot where we could put our caravan when we were ready.

The next morning [Sunday 25 June] Eric went out to Bulong to prospect and I stayed in Kal to do the washing and to try to recover from my bad cough that I had had from somewhere in SA. On Monday night our mate Ernie met us for tea and then he and Eric went to the prospecting club meeting. We then re-located to Bulong and camped in the bush for a few nights while Eric prospected.
